Sixth-gen BMW 5 Series bows in
BMW has taken the wraps off the sixth generation of its midsize 5 Series sport sedan.
Not only does the new ‘5’ now offer the longest wheelbase in its class, it now shares a platform with its big brother, the 7 Series, and is built at the same plant in Dingolfing, Germany.
The new exterior design closely follows the example set by the new 7 Series and the hatchbacked 5 Series Gran Turismo. Of course that kidney-shaped grille and Hofmeister kink at the bottom of the C-pillar are ever-present.
The new BMW 5 Series will launch in June of 2010 (as a 2011 model year). Initially, it will be available as a 535i and 550i. The 528i and xDrive all-wheel drive variants of all three models will arrive later in the year.
The 528i will be more focused on efficiency with a 240-hp inline six under the hood.
The new 5 Series is absolutely brimming with technology. There optional Adaptive Drive, which encompasses Driving Dynamics Control, Electronic Damper Control, and Active Roll Stabilization. BMW says its Integral Active Steering “will virtually extend or shorten the vehicle’s wheelbase for improved stability at high speeds and enhanced agility at lower speeds.”
Driver assists include a new Parking Assistant system, Top View cameras, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, a Head-Up Display, and BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection.
BMW has sold more that 5.5 million 5 Series since the first generation debuted.

Some of the 2011 models come with a new approach... environmentally friendly models.
After Toyota's efforts and dos of being #1 on the field, this year all brands are taking some piece of new developed green tech.
Congratulations!!!
