Quick Spin ~ 2010 GMC Terrain SLT
This is a vehicle with nice fit and finish, that offers excellent passenger and cargo room while delivering fuel economy at the top of its class. While the Terrain and Equinox are similar, and share many of the same components, to my eye the Terrain has a much more macho look, with a squared-off front end, flat grille with chrome header bar and bulging fenders. The Terrain is positioned a bit more upscale than the Equinox, starting at $27,465 for the SLE-1 FWD, compared with $25,900 for the Equinox. All-wheel drive versions start at $29,075.
Inside, the Terrain is attractive with a well thought-out dash layout. While not in luxury territory, the interior is nicely done with contrasting stitching that adds to the attractiveness. The centre stack is impressive with all buttons and switches easy to reach. The heated front seats are comfortable with an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar settings, and a two-way manual passenger’s seat. In the rear, the 60/40 split folding seats have a three position recline and slide 20 cm fore and aft to increase cargo space or leg room. My tester had leather seats, but I personally would opt for the fabric. Leg room is plentiful in the rear, and with front-wheel-drive, the floor is flat, making long-distance travel more pleasant for the middle passenger. The rear cargo area holds 894 litres (31.6 cu ft.) or 1,809 litres (63.9 cu ft.) with the rear seat folded.
For those who like their vehicles with a bold, muscular face, the Terrain fits the bill quite nicely. It has lots of room for passenger and cargo, while the four cylinder model enjoys best-in-class fuel economy. There’s a lot to like here.
