The new generation of pickups have conclusively proven that creature comforts and hauling capabilities are not mutually exclusive. With these vehicles, you can haul your cake (thousands of pounds of it even) and eat it too (in living room-like surroundings). This newly acquired talent for delivering car-like driving and comfort has meant pickups have found a whole new group of buyers. No wonder about 250,000 pickups are sold every year in Canada.
GMC Sierra Reg Cab, Ext Cab, Crew Cab

There's a new sheriff in town -- the 2007 GMC Sierra. GM worked overtime to make sure its new-generation full-size pickups were on the market before the new Toyota Trundra arrived. We couldn't get our hands on an ... – more »

Cadillac Escalade EXT

Technically speaking, the Cadillac EXT is neither pickup nor SUV, but a Sport Utility Truck; an SUT if you will. Like its cousin, the Chevrolet Avalanche, the EXT has a "midgate" behind the rear seats. Fold it into the cab, fold ... – more »

Chevrolet Silverado Reg Cab, Ext Cab, Crew Cab

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra constitute GM's fullsize pickup line, which was completely re-invented for 2007. We named Sierra as our Editors' Choice for the segment this year, but we could have ... – more »

Chevrolet Avalanche LS, LT, LTZ

The Chevy Avalanche is the rough and tumble brother of the Cadillac Escalade EXT. Like the EXT, the Avalanche's claim to fame is its "Midgate," positioned behind the rear seating area and the cargo bed. With the Midgate ... – more »

Toyota Tundra Reg Cab, Double Cab, Crew Max

There is nothing tentative about Toyota's third crack at the lucrative, and Detroit-dominated, full-size pickup market. – more »

Chevrolet Colorado Reg Cab, Ext Cab, Crew Cab

Chevrolet's compact pickup plays by the rules -- it actually is compact. And if you want a Regular Cab, it's one of the few left. Other cab variations are Extended and Crew. For 2007, we could mention minor ... – more »

Dodge Dakota Club Cab, Quad Cab

Dakota is still the only midsize truck that offers an optional V8. The 4.7-litre unit, available with 230 or 260 hp, allows a best-in-class tow rating of up to 7,150 lbs. and makes a viable alternative to bulkier, thirstier ... – more »

Dodge Ram Mega Cab SLT, Laramie

To create the Mega Cab, Dodge took a long-box 2500 model, replaced the 8-ft bed with a 6-footer, and stretched the cab to fill the remaining space. Net result: the roomiest cabin in the industry, along with the largest ... – more »

Dodge Ram Reg Cab, Quad Cab

The Ram 1500 received quite a thorough mid-cycle makeover for 2006, so it's status quo for this year. Ram continues in Regular or 4-door Quad Cab configurations, each with a choice of boxes (8-ft or 6.4). Available 3.7-litre ... – more »

Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4.0, XLT 4.6, Limited 4.0, Limited 4.6

The second-generation Sport Trac uses Explorer sheet metal from the B-pillar forward, but is unique everywhere else, including the composite 4-ft box with its trademark tie-downs. This ... – more »

Ford F-150 Reg Cab, Super Cab, Super Crew

In its last redesign for 2004 the F-150 set new pickup benchmarks in refinement, handling, interior ergonomics and quality. Now that its GM rival has been redesigned, Ford is responding with new options (including ... – more »

Ford Ranger Reg Cab, Super Cab

Ford's compact pickup may well hold the record for length of time on the market without a major redesign. That doesn't seem to matter to Ranger loyalists -- in fact, it's selling better than ever. For '07, there are audio ... – more »

GMC Canyon Reg Cab, Ext Cab, Crew Cab

Like's its twin, the Chevrolet Colorado, the GMC Canyon is a well-executed compact truck. It offers the same body and drivetrain configurations as the Chevy (including one of the few remaining Regular Cabs), so ... – more »

Honda Ridgeline LX, EX-L

Every other full-size pickup has a body-on-frame design. But Honda doesn't do "body-on-frame" anything, so engineers created the first full-size pickup with unibody construction. Some dimensions and elements are carried over ... – more »

Hummer H2 SUT

The Greenies love to trash the Hummer, but for some enthusiasts it's the ultimate in expressive transportation. This pickup version is less practical than the SUV. The bed is small and hard to access (you must swing a tire and tailgate ... – more »

Lincoln Mark LT

Lincoln's previous attempt at a pickup -- the U.S.-only Blackwood -- was a flop because it offered little utility with its upscale appointments. That miscue was corrected with the Mark LT, which is every bit as much a workhorse as the ... – more »
