SPYDER NEW FOR 2006
Last year we said of the Gallardo ... "first gear is so tall that it doesn't feel as quick ... as it really is" and noted "steering turn-in isn't as sharp as you'd expect." Somebody in Sant'Agata must've been listening. For 2006, this all-wheel-drive supercar gets more precise and direct steering, and quicker gearbox ratios. That's not all: the 5.0-litre V10's output grows to 520 (Euro) horsepower from 500 in SE trim; and there's a new Spyder model. The latter's fabric convertible roof can be powered back and under the engine cover in 20 seconds. But be warned: with the top down, max speed drops to just 307 km/h, from 314 km/h with it closed. Sheesh ....
