The GT is the ultimate expression of Porsche's art -- a megabucks supercar for the ultra-rich. To drive, it's an odd mixture of user-friendly and intimidating. Its 5.7-litre V10 howls out 605 horsepower at 8,000 rpm, yet is flexible enough to lug strongly from below 1,500 rpm in sixth gear. The shifter for the six-speed manual transmission is ridiculously light and precise -- almost delicate. Brake pedal effort is perfect, and the steering is effortless. On the other hand, the sudden clutch makes smooth launches a challenge, the steering is twitchy at higher speeds, and although cornering grip is phenomenal, the sharp throttle-lift attitude change even at moderate speeds portends unforgiving handling at the limit.

Fabulous engine, shifter, steering, brakes, grip

Hard-to-launch clutch, handling needs a deft touch
