Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon E350 4Matic
Station Wagon
Mar 01, 2007
For more than $2,000 less than last year's model, the '07 E-Class wagon adds a host of new standard features, including active bi-xenon headlamps, a Harmon Kardon Logic7 surround-sound system, full leather upholstery, a power-closing tailgate and a heated steering wheel.

Reduced to just one model, E350 4Matic, the wagon shares the so-called new-generation (we call it a midlife makeover) alterations as the E-Class sedans. That means a new grille, headlamps, taillights and aero door mirrors. The powertrain remains a robust 268-hp, 3.5-litre gasoline V6 with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Additionally, Pres-Safe (a system to anticipate a crash and pre-prepare the occupants and the safety systems for it) is now standard. New Direct Control front suspension/steering promises a sportier drive, and an adaptive brake system replaces the previous, unloved brake-by-wire Sensotronic system. Adaptive abilities include automatically "pre-loading" the brake system in anticipation of an imminent emergency stop; periodically applying the brakes very lightly to clear water when driving in the rain; and automatically holding the vehicle when stopped.

Gone from the lineup are the V8s -- no E550 to succeed last year's E500, and sadly no E63 AMG in place of 2006's E55 AMG.

A rare blend of luxury, safety, elegance, refinement and utility

No diesel, no V8, no E63 AMG
