Just as the new MKZ sedan shares its architecture with the Ford Fusion, the new MKX crossover SUV is an under-the-skin twin of the new Ford Edge.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. The basic architecture is as worthy of a luxury brand as anything else in this segment.
An all-new 265-hp, 3.5-litre V6 is partnered with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This smooth and punchy powertrain can power just the front wheels, or all four through the optional intelligent all-wheel drive.
Four-wheel independent suspension is tuned for a luxury ride, and complemented by a standard stability-control system incorporating roll stability control. This system can intervene to prevent, a rollover situation separately from stability control's usual skid-prevention function.
Lincoln worked hard to make the MKX even quieter than the Edge, and the result is claimed to be the quietest interior of any Lincoln ever built.
The roomy 5-seater cabin features a 60/40-split second row that can be reclined up to 15 degrees. It also folds down flat in one fluid movement, either by the seat-mounted lever or by a remote switch on the liftgate.
MKX boasts options such as adaptive headlamps that swivel with the steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, heated rear seats, a 600-watt THX II audio system and DVD-based navigation. Heated and cooled front seats are standard.
