Mazda RX-8 GS, GT
Sport Coupe/Convertible
Mar 01, 2007
Technically, the RX-8 is not a coupe, given its suicide rear doors. But they are really just half-doors so we're willing to ignore them. While they enhance access to surprisingly roomy rear-seats, they don't make the car a sedan. And the RX-8 definitely drives like sports car. So, coupe it is. Although it wouldn't be our choice, the optional paddle-shift automatic is much more attractive since it gained two ratios last year, and its torque-optimized version of the rotary engine was boosted to 212 hp from 197. If you opt for the excellent 6-speed manual transmission, you get a high-winding, high-performance version of the engine, making 232 hp. Nothing of note changes for 2007.
