Chevrolet Silverado Reg Cab, Ext Cab, Crew Cab
Pickup Truck
Mar 01, 2007
The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra constitute GM's fullsize pickup line, which was completely re-invented for 2007. We named Sierra as our Editors' Choice for the segment this year, but we could have just as easily chosen the Chevy. So, needless to say, we're big on this new big pickup.

Styling is clearly evolutionary, but closer inspection reveals some nice modern touches -- faster windshield angle, broader wheel line-up to establish better wheel-to-body proportions, attractive wheel arch sculpting, and closer body fits and gaps.

The new Silverado is also slightly taller and wider than its predecessor, and is based on an all-new more-rigid frame. You'll also find new steering and suspension pieces, and increased sound-proofing. Net result is a very quiet and civilized truck, with increased robustness and better handling.

There are lots of engines choices. Notable are the 5.3-litre V8s with Active Fuel Management; all produce over 300 hp and all achieve over 20 mpg. Consider also the 367-hp 6.0-litre V8, which enables a towing package-equipped Silverado to tow 10,500 lbs. (4,763 kg) -- as high as any "light duty" truck in the market.

The new pickups also debut a cool cargo management system, consisting of aluminum upper and lower rails that enable the use of optional pieces, such as an overhead utility rack, toolbox, and sliding bed divider.

More muscle, with better fuel economy
