If a minivan or even a full-size SUV won't cut it, consider the traditional full-size, rear-drive van. All three of the Motown automakers offer them. The GMC Savana shares its platform and basic structure with Chevrolet's Express. Like the bowtie machine, it can haul up to 15 people, offers six engine choices and can be outfitted with all-wheel drive. New to the Savana for 2007 is a standard 295-hp V8 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, which finally meets the bar set by Ford's E-Series and its standard 4.6-litre V8. There's an alternate version of the GMC's new V8 available that can run on E85, a mixture of 85 percent renewable ethanol and 15 percent traditional gasoline.
