The hardware may be all-new, but the mission is the same. This front-drive Lexus is for drivers who want premium features at an entry-luxury price. The key words are refinement, comfort and understatement.
Maybe so, but the new 272-hp, 3.5-litre V6 represents a sizeable leap in power and performance from last year's 3.3. Helped along by a 6-speed automatic transmission, this is one fast car (0-100 in 7.2 seconds) when you want it to be.
The brakes work well, too, and the suspension doesn't go weak kneed on freeway on-ramps. But still, the priority here is low noise levels, a comfortable ride, and steering that isolates you from that nasty, dirty, road surface.
According to the numbers, interior room is increased, though other competitors have back seats that are more passenger-friendly. The back bench is really only sculpted for two occupants, and most sizes of adults will experience a knees-up posture that's somewhat less than luxurious.
In Lexus tradition, the appointments start lavish and go up from there. Base-level features include a power-adjustable steering column, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 6-CD in-dash changer, heated and cooled 10-way power front seats, leather upholstery, and a power moonroof.
Two option packages, can add adaptive headlamps, and a panorama glass roof, to name a few.
