Mazda's sporty intermediate is a lot more "contented" for 2007. New standard amenities include ABS, six airbags, and, depending on the trim level, many other formerly extra-cost options. One thing that doesn't change is the choice between a conventional sedan, or a liftback (Sport) that has virtually the same silhouette as the sedan (so you won't be stigmatized by "hatchback" practicality). Either body style can be had with GS or GT trim, each in turn with a choice of a 156-hp, 2.3-litre 4-cylinder or 212-hp, 3.0-litre V6 engines. (Note: new test methodology reduces quoted horsepower; actual performance is unchanged). The optional automatic is a 5-speed on the "four" and a 6-speed on the V6.
