Ferrari F430 / Spyder Coupe, Challenge, Spider

Published on Mar 01, 2006

The latest edition of the "junior" Ferrari was new last year, so little changes now except for the arrival of the inevitable Challenge version -- a stripped-for-action (but still street-legal) competition model for use in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli one-make racing series. Power of the mesmerizing 4.3-litre V8 stays at the same 490 horsepower as in the regular coupe and Spider (convertible), but "added lightness" (about 200 kg less), plus carbon-ceramic brakes, Pirelli slick tires, beefed-up suspension, and revised ratios for the F1-derived electronic gearbox, should make it plenty quick. A novel feature of the F430 is a wheel-mounted dial you can use to adjust the traction and stability control settings.
