SLK280 NEW FOR 2006

Your first SLK gets closer with the debut of a new entry-level SLK280. Its 3.0-litre V6 generates 228 horsepower, compared with the 268 of the robust 3.5-litre, which remains available -- as does the SLK 55, powered by a 5.5-litre 362-hp V8. The V6s come with a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic, but the 55 is five-speed automatic only. The SLK is a fun driver's car but is still soft enough to coddle those more interested in posing than performing. The folding hardtop roof design works wonderfully, and a truly decadent option is Airscarf -- a hot-air vent in each head restraint to keep your ears warm when driving with the top down.
