Porsche 911 Carrera, 4, S, 4S / Cabriolet, 4, S, 4S

Published on Mar 01, 2006

A major 2005 redesign kept the classic 911 profile while at the same time making Porsche's rear-engined icon both more user-friendly and a more potent hard-core driving machine. Since then, Porsche has progressively rolled out the expected all-wheel-drive and cabriolet versions. At the current count that now gives us eight permutations of coupe or cabrio, rear- or all-wheel-drive, and base or S powertrains. The base 3.6-litre engine generates 325 horsepower, the S's 3.8-litre version making 355 ponies. New options for 2006 include two-tone interiors, an electronic trip logbook, 19-inch wheels, and a nav-system that can guide you back to your start point if you go "off the map."

Perfect fusion of performance, style, practicality

Too much understeer in tight turns
