Sadly still not as popular as its BMW and Mercedes-Benz competitors, the Audi A8 offers its most extensive model range ever this year. The A8 and A8 L return, and there's a new "ultimate," top-of-range model -- the A8 L W12. Replacing the standard 4.2-litre 335 horsepower V8 is a W12, making a whopping 450 horsepower. This unique engine design is the result of joining two narrow-angle V6 engines at the crankshaft. Acceleration to 60 mph takes just 5.0 seconds. All A8s now wear the automaker's single-frame grille and use a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and adjustable air suspension. New standard equipment includes adaptive headlights, parking assist and rain sensing wipers.
High tech, lightweight
Sadly lacks other German's reputation
