Toyota Tundra Reg Cab, Double Cab, Crew Max

There is nothing tentative about Toyota's third crack at the lucrative, and Detroit-dominated, full-size pickup market.
The new American-designed and American-built Tundra is all-American huge. There's a Double Cab long-box model that's the same length (6.3 metres) as the Dodge Ram Megacab. The Regular Cab long-box Tundra (there are no Extended Cab models in Canada) and the short-box Double Cab stretch 5.8 metres (229 in.), matching the Americans almost inch for inch. There's even an available 350 (5.7-litre) V8.
Tundra also comes with a wider model range than before -- in Canada, 12 different permutations of Regular or Double Cab, 6.5- or 8-ft box, 4x2 or 4x4 driveline, and 4.7- or 5.7-litre V8 (in the U.S., 30 varieties of Tundra also include a V6 engine, extended cabs and short-box Regular Cab models).
The 4.7-litre V8 delivers 271 hp and is bolted to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The 5.7 (output had not been disclosed as this was written) comes with a segment-exclusive 6-speed automatic.
An auto limited-slip rear differential, 4-disc ABS brakes, vehicle skid control and six airbags are standard across the board. The standard wheel size is 18 inches, except on the Limited trim which rolls on 20-inch wheels with 275/55R20 tires.
Looks very promising on paper
We won't know until we've driven it
