The all-new Accent platform debuted in the sedan configuration in the fall of 2005, as a 2006 model. The new 3-door hatch debuted the following spring, as a 2007 model. This time around, Hyundai will not offer a 5-door Accent, so sister-company, Kia, can make more hay with its 5-door Rio, which is based on Accent. (To reciprocate, Rio will not get a 3-door.)

Accent not only grew in stature, by also in poise, power, safety and refinement. Interior volume of this subcompact is closer to compact-car standards. Most of the added room comes from height; front-seat occupants sit 50 mm (2 in.) higher with no loss of headroom.

You can have six airbags, and 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, but only on GS Premium models.

The 2007 Accent 3-door is way sportier than its predecessors. The new, smooth 1.6-litre four has lots of user-friendly torque, and is well matched to either the 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. Though fuel efficiency and out-right power are a notch below some other engines in the segment.

The hatchback's GS Sport models up the ante with 16-inch tires, a larger 24 mm stabilizer bar, and "sport-tuned" suspension. An even sportier set-up will find its way to the coming SR model, which was conceived in Canada and will be exclusive to our market.
