Recent reports out of the UK say that, in an efforts to permanently change people’s traveling habits and to ease congestion, cars will be banned from London when it hosts the 2012 Olympics. The London Times said organizers are expected 8 million spectators to take transit, walk or bike to the sporting events, with only a few vehicles permitted for athletes, disabled people, etc. The “country’s largest peacetime logistical operation,” according to the paper, the plan has a high-tech slant with ticket purchasers getting a personalized itinerary explaining how to get their venue, a free all-zones travel card and daily live travel information sent to their cell phones.
