In a bit of good news for Motown, a recent report by Global Quality Research Systems (GQRS) reported that the quality of Ford Motor Co. vehicles is "virtually equal" to Toyota's and Nissan's. In the first quarter of this year, Ford vehicles recorded 1,456 TGW (things gone wrong) per 1,000 vehicles, compared with Toyota at 1,453 and Nissan at 1,457. GQRS compiled its data from owners who've owned their vehicles for at least three months. Ford's TGW actually dropped eight percent, bettering the industry's overall improvement of two percent. Standout products included the Fusion at the top of the midsize car category, the Shelby GT500 in sports cars, the Expedition in large traditional utility and the Lincoln Navigator in the large premium utility category. Ford's newer products -- like the Oakville, Ontario-built Edge and MKX crossover -- were not included in this round of the survey.
