Though this is technically a stuffy business story, it holds so much gravity we thought it best to include it here. For the first time, Toyota has sold more vehicles globally in a financial quarter than General Motors. In the first three months of 2007, the Japanese automaker outpaced its American rival by some 88,000 units. It's a change that's been coming down the pike for quite some time, with the Japanese firm gaining more and more momentum in the marketplace, largely with its quality and fuel-economy message, and GM facing a number of cost and restructuring issues, not to mention dialing back its fleet sales, which once helped its overall global numbers.
